In January 2025, Avicenna Wageningen established a dedicated PhD subgroup for Muslim PhD candidates at Wageningen University & Research (WUR).
The aim of this initiative is to create a space where PhD candidates from a Muslim background can come together, get to know one another, and exchange thoughts, ideas, and experiences related to both academic and personal life.
Within this subgroup, we also organize reflection circles, where topics of shared concern can be openly discussed in a respectful and supportive environment.
These sessions provide a space for deeper conversation, reflection, and mutual understanding, helping participants navigate the challenges of PhD life while staying connected as a community.
In addition to our regular activities, we also organize an annual PhD orientation event. This event brings together Bachelor’s and Master’s students with current PhD candidates at WUR.
During this session, PhD candidates share their experiences, challenges, and advice about pursuing a PhD. It provides students with valuable insights into academic life at the doctoral level and helps them make more informed decisions about their future academic paths.
If you are a PhD candidate at WUR, you are more than welcome to participate in this growing community.
We look forward to welcoming you, connecting with you, and building a supportive space together.
