Fasting on Mondays is a beautiful Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) that offers Muslims an opportunity to grow spiritually and earn the pleasure of Allah.
It was narrated from Abu Hurairah (رضي الله عنه) that the Prophet (ﷺ) used to fast on Mondays and Thursdays. When he was asked why he observed these fasts, he replied:
"On Mondays and Thursdays Allah forgives every Muslim except two who have forsaken one another. He says: 'Leave these two until they reconcile.'"
This hadith reminds us not only of the virtue of voluntary fasting but also of the importance of maintaining good relationships and reconciling with one another.
Inspired by this Sunnah, a group of Avicenna members regularly fasts on Mondays during the winter months and gathers to break their fast (iftar) together. Sharing the iftar creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere where members encourage one another to uphold this beautiful practice of the Prophet (ﷺ). It is also a wonderful opportunity to strengthen friendships, build community, and reflect on the spiritual benefits of voluntary fasting.
Whether you are new to Monday fasting or have been observing it for years, you are warmly invited to join us. Everyone is welcome to participate, enjoy the shared meal, and experience the blessings of this Sunnah together.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming Monday Sunnah Iftars!
